In a waste land of 500 channels CBS Sunday Morning is my oasis. I know every week I am going to get an hour and a half of good stuff. I have no clue what it might be, but that is the joy in it.
A few weeks ago they ran a story called "An Unlikely Friendship."
A rich Boston lawyer liked to go for a walk. He would often run into a homeless man in the park. They started to talk. Not having much in common, outside of the Soxs and the weather, the lawyer gave him a book, Water for Elephants. They talked about it for hours.
One day he asked him what he did with the book after he was done with it. He said he gave it to this homeless guy that read it, and then he gave it to another, and another, and he didn't know where it ended up. So the rich guy did something I would not have thought about, he formed a homeless book club.
Now before I go on I should say if you walked into my house the first thing you'd notice is a lot of books. I got books in my bathrooms. They are everywhere and I will attempt to give you one too read if you give them a glance.
Now with that said, I find the most touching part of the video is when a women says:
Just cause you're homeless doesn't mean you don't read.

So the lawyer set up a homeless book club where they meet weekly at a local church. He buys the books, and at first the food. They asked him not to cater the meals cause they only wanted people to talk about the books and not just get a "free lunch."
In another part of the video, a member of the club says that he had never read before, but now he does his mind is "occupied" and he doesn't think of hurting himself as much. How cool is that.
