Just seven months into the Obama administration, we see far too much backward-looking condemnation of Obama, for doing "the same thing" as Bush.
That's not really fair or accurate, as a general summation of the situation.
In many regards, the present situation, under Obama, is not different "enough". But there are also a lot of indications of material difference in perspective and approach, both in rhetoric, and in action, coming from Obama and at least some elements of his administration.
One of the most prevalent, and completely incorrect assertions cropping up, more and more, is that we now have "a Democratic majority in Congress" and yet we still can't ram through needed changes...a whack perspective that gets expressed with all kinds of angst filled expressions of WTF??!!
That perspective is either really, woefully ignorant, or a deliberately disingenuous, contrived construct, seeking to sow demoralization and abandonment of the party, to bolster guaranteed loser "alternative" party building, or weaseling sectarian hard-left bids for their own splinter-group posturing for hegemony within a bankrupt electoral boycott "strategy".
Anybody honest, with a brain, can see that we do NOT really have a Democratic majority in Congress, and that all the whining, mewling and puking about any such pretense is nothing but a lot of jive.
Despite having a Progressive Caucus majority within a Democratic majority in Congress, the Blue Dog/Republican cabal trumps that plurality, leaving us still mired in the legacy of the past 30 years of low voter turnout and vote splitting that have, defacto, handed power over to the Republicans, time and again.
No way can the Blue Dog caucus be considered part of a "Democratic majority".
No "Blue Dog", who embraces that name, or that "philosophy" is a Democrat.
"Socially liberal", "but", "financially conservative" is an absolute oxymoron.
There is no such thing as a "liberal" fascist.
To say that Blue Dogs are a "necessary" part of the Democratic Party completely buys into the Blue Dog's own falsely purported legitimacy, as a fifth column of traitors, who actually are nothing but Republicans who have infiltrated the party to water it down, discredit it, and perpetuate Republican sabotage of democratic process.
This is NOT a "center/right" nation.
This nation is substantially to the left of "center", and that trend is accelerating.
We do not "need" the Blue Dogs.
Looking back, at what the vote splitters and boycotters have themselves created, the Reagan/Bush legacy, and attributing all the problems and issues arising from that and persisting to a very substantial degree now, is a completely whack and dishonest means of attacking Obama, who remains hostage to the Blue Dog/Republican cabal, whether we like it, want it to be so, or even recognize that harsh cold reality or not.
What we need to do is to look forward, to what can be accomplished once we really have a real Democratic majority, a Progressive super-majority, sufficient to block the treasons of the Blue Dog/Republican cabal.
That will not be accomplished by encouraging people to abandon the party, or to drop out of electoral struggle altogether. The only "direct action" that is going to change a goddamn thing in any material way is to seize the power in this country, with a progressive Democratic super-majority that can cut off at the knees any further right wing "debate" and sabotage, so we can surge forward into the 21st Century, and leave a sordid, bogus, criminally corrupt "bipartisan" past behind us.
We don't "need" a fascist "loyal opposition", to be "fair and balanced".
We need revolutionary justice and peace, to save the planet.
Democracy is the most fundamental revolutionary concept.
We need real democracy, and that does not mean allowing corporate fascist pigs a "vote" as to exactly how, and how much, they are going to screw us and murder us.
The right needs to be purged, and suppressed, democratically, electorally, for us to even begin to have democracy in this country.
To whatever extent the right resists the popular democratic mandate militarily, they must be suppressed militarily, and destroyed.
We need to seize the power.
Bring the Better Democrats!
All Out for 2010 and 2012!
All Power to the People!
Death to capitalism, as we now know it, and it's moribund form, fascism...
