Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins has
endorsed the campaign of Wesley Clark. Dinkins stressed that
Clark is an electable candidate who has the right values and experience. Dinkins
plans to campaign with Clark in New Hampshire this weekend.
Dinkins told reporters he began looking seriously at Clark
after learning that he was among a group of retired military
officials who filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in
support of affirmative action at the University of Michigan.
He said Clark "has values ... that are consistent and
congruent with things that I deem to be important."
"It's also important to win, and I think he can win,"
Dinkins added, speaking to reporters on a conference call.
Lara Bergthold, the Clark campaign's political director, said the
endorsement was "another example of our broad base of
support."
Dinkins said he plans to join Clark this weekend in New
Hampshire, which holds its primary on Tuesday, and hopes to
campaign for him in South Carolina.
