Wisconsin Republicans claim their state is so broke they have no choice but to cut state workers' salaries and eliminate their collective bargaining rights. Given this, it would be hard to dream up a better scandal that Scott Walker's cabinet giving the 26 year-old mistress of one of the Republican Senators a state job with a 35% raise. And yet, that's exactly what's happened.
At Daily Kos, we're going to make Randy Hopper pay a steep political price for the grotesque hypocrisy and cronyism Wisconsin Republicans are displaying on top of their union-busting. We're going to run a Google Surge ad campaign across Randy Hopper's entire state Senate district from 7am Monday until 7pm Friday of next week. The ads, one of which you can see running across the top of this post, will explain the scandal in clear, simple terms and link to a local news story verifying all the details.
We need $12,128 to pull this off. Please, contribute $12 to Daily Kos to help make it happen.
The beauty of a Google Surge campaign is that it basically makes it impossible for anyone who goes online in the targeted area to not see our ads. So, by targeting all 43 zip codes in Randy Hopper's state Senate district for 108 eight hours, we can guarantee that the vast majority of voters in the district will read about the scandal several times.
Hopper is already in deep trouble. He's a freshman who only won his seat by 163 votes, and our Daily Kos / PPP shows him trailing a generic Democrat 49%-44%. If every voter in his district hears about this scandal, it's hard to imagine how he wins the recall election.
We can potentially end Randy Hopper's political career with this campaign. Please, contribute $12 to Daily Kos, and make sure that every voter in Randy Hopper's district knows about this scandal.
Update--we hit the goal! We've surged past the original goal of $12,128. If we reach $14,739, we can run the ad for another 24 hours. Please, contribute $5 to help make that happen.
Update 2--we hit the second goal! As always, you guys are amazing. Now, if we reach $18,033, then the ad can stay up an additional 30 hours--until 1am on Monday, April 4th. Can you chip in $5 toward that goal?
Update 3--final numbers: Turns out the budget for running the ad over the whole week was actually $19,933, but we hit the goal anyway. Thanks so much to everyone who donated. This is going to have a big impact.
