Barack Obama was never another FDR. He never showed much interest in advancing Democratic causes. He's really the Democrats' version of Richard Nixon.
FDR pushed for and passed huge public works programs to put people to work early in his first term. Obama simply passed a watered-down stimulus in order to appease Republicans.
FDR led his party to historic victories in the 1934 midterm elections, while Obama led his party to the worst defeat in over 100 years, plucking Democrats from office at every level of government.
Nixon never pushed much for conservative goals, just like Obama didnt push much for liberal goals. Obama extended the Bush tax cuts and his foreign policy, while Nixon extended the Great Society and created many new government agencies.
Obama and Nixon pushed for healthcare bills that were nearly identical, with Nixon's actually being a little more liberal than Obama's.
Although Nixon resigned before the 1974 midterm elections, the Republican party was wiped out in that election because of him, just like Democrats were wiped out in 2010 mainly because of Obama.
In 1972, Nixon used short term gimmicks like price controls to hold down inflation so he could get reelected. Obama is using similar gimmicks to help himself in 2012 like releasing oil reserves.
