Wisconsin Republicans didn't want local tea party leader David VanderLeest to be the GOP nominee in the July 19 recall campaign against Democratic Senator Dave Hansen. This new DLCC ad against VanderLeest, which starts running today, shows why:
Here's the script:
David VanderLeest is running for State Senate and he has a long record….sadly it’s a lengthy court record.
VanderLeest has racked up building code violations, a judgment for nearly $30,000, a disorderly conduct charge and misdemeanor convictions.
But what’s most troubling about David VanderLeest’s record are the accusations of domestic abuse.
Reports claim VanderLeest’s violent outbursts caused serious injuries to his family members.
On July 19th, vote against David VanderLeest. His shocking record is the last thing Wisconsin needs.
Hansen is expected to win this campaign by a solid margin, and this ad will go a long way toward making sure that he does.
Instead of VanderLeest, who organized the recall petition drive against Hansen but who has no experience running for elected office, Republicans wanted state Rep. John Nygren to be their nominee. However, with 400 valid signatures required to appear on the ballot in the recall primary,
Nygren produced only 398. As it turns out,
Nygren didn't even sign the petition himself.
With Nygren out of the picture, there will be no primary election in this recall. That means that Hansen versus VanderLeest will take place on July 19. The six general elections against Republicans will be on August 9, while the general elections against the other two Democrats will be on August 16. There will also be primaries on July 12 and July 19, which both sides will use to test out their field operations for the August general elections.
Dave Hansen is at the top of the Orange to Blue page right now. Chip in $5 to help him finish strong against Dave VanderLeest.
