Oh, joy. Quadaffi is dead. Who knows if he was lynched, murdered, or what. But, although we could see fit to try Herman Goering, we can't be bothered with such things these days. Oh no, just too much bother.
Our friend, the "King" of Bahrain. More ammo with that sir?
So let's all have a big celebration. Add Q to the list of dictators we propped up and then overthrew. Noriega, Saddam, etc. (Some of them we just threw under the bus, like Somoza and the Shah.)
I see praise heaped on Obama for this latest war when the same kind of thing, done by President Cheney, would have earned a completely opposite reaction. I don't like it. I don't like celebrations of war and I don't like celebrations of killing. I don't like being told a bunch of bullshit about how we have to kill off Quadaffi yet support the murdering crime lords of Bahrain, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia.
So pop the champagne, just don't expect me to raise a glass.
Update: I see that I have been criticized as mendacious for using the words "propping up" in describing the U.S. relationship with Q. BigAlinWashSt provided the link to this report from the Washington Post, dated 2/24/11, where it is written:
Now, after this week's violent crackdown on protesters in Tripoli, human rights groups and some Libyan opposition leaders are asking whether the United States was duped in 2003 into propping up one of the world's most repressive regimes.
