I don't know how. I don't know what. I've never organized anything in my life. For that matter, I'm not even a Veteran.
But we need to Occupy Veterans Day.
Veteran's Day isn't just about honoring those who served. It's Remembrance Day, to honor the fallen. It's Armistice Day, to commemorate the end of a monstrous horrific, destructive war.
What it isn't is another day to celebrate chest-thumping, flag-waving, unthinking jingoistic, imperialistic self-congratulation.
To me, the Occupy movement is all about reclaiming all sorts of spaces for the 99% - literally, physical space in the case of the encampments, but also the intellectual space of the national conversation about Issues That Matter. But there is more to be done, occupying spiritual and symbolic space.
This isn't much of a diary because really I don't have solutions, just an idea. If it's a good idea, maybe some of you will listen and add your thoughts and ideas and we can grow something from this seed together. Or maybe not.
