I was looking online for an Occupy movement in my city, and was for a moment delighted to see there was already a website for it with an explicitly OWS-related domain name. Unfortunately, when I clicked on the website, I was led to a very deceptive link farm that has "Occupy-ish" overtones if one were just scanning it briefly (it includes the slogan "We are the 99%" in the title bar, so don't be deceived just looking at the Google page). The actual content, however, is all ads for credit services and real estate companies. And it isn't just my city, but numerous cities that have been preemptively hijacked in this fashion. If you are unaware of an Occupy movement in your city, you might consider Googling "Occupy (insert city name)" to see whether cyber-squatters are parasiting off the movement to drive traffic into such link farms. And even if there is an active movement underway, these assholes are probably still using it to pimp credit services.
I have gone through the entire Wikipedia list of cities and towns in California (sorry, there are just too many nationwide - I will have to rely on others to do the rest) looking for squatter domains for Occupy ___, and the following links with relatively well-known cities in the names are all the same link farm:

The fact that they use "We are the 99%" in the title bar makes it clear they are deliberately deceiving people here - it's not a matter of the word "occupy" being used innocently for something else. They also subtitle their homepages as "Occupy [insert city] Movement Resources," and pepper the wording with tailor-made keywords like "solidarity," even though it provides nothing of value to actual movements - links to "Police Misconduct" and "Civil Rights Violation" just lead to link farms for lawyers. It would be one thing if they were just using the word "occupy" as a hook, but they're using entire phrases from the movement, so this pisses me off. It is important to note, however, that not all occupy domains ending in *.com are link farms - I ran into plenty of legitimate ones that chose .com over .org for whatever reason.
This is what the About Us page yields in every single one of the link farms:
Occupy [city name] is a dynamic platform which consolidates the best news, blogs, photos, and videos about topics related to credit history. This dynamic technology learns from user behavior, allowing the content to react to the community's interests and preferences.
What's worse, the phrases Occupy Anaheim, Occupy Bakersfield, Occupy (etc.) for all the cities listed are claimed to have been copyrighted, although it doesn't say anywhere who the owners are and there is no contact page. I leave it to others to verify whether or not these copyrights are registered or are just verbal claim-staking. Based on the links, it seems very likely that whoever is doing this is profiting from the very kinds of companies that OWS is fighting. Furthermore, the fact that I didn't see one of these link farms for a given city doesn't mean it isn't there, only that it wasn't high enough in Google rankings for me to see it on the first few pages.
BTW, there is some good news on a totally separate front: "Occupy x" is now a banned search term in China, which is proof the movement is being taken seriously globally. Don't know if anyone reported on it when the information first came out last week, but I hadn't seen that.
3:17 PM PT: Thanks to a comment from Mother Mags, we now have evidence that these link farms may be something more sinister than opportunistic business parasitism: Apparently in the "Political Web Sites" link, the only two actual politically-oriented links generated are the Tea Party and the GOP.
6:00 PM PT: Based on comments by johnny wurster and Broke and Unemployed, as well as lookup tools pointed out to me by Marjmar, we have the following information about the squatter company: NameMedia, Inc. of Waltham, MA. The hosting service that hosts the sites is Ardennes Technologies (though I'm not if this information is useful). Thanks, folks.
