Muskegon Critic: "Kiss OWS's positive image goodbye."
I know call out's are not kosher, but M.C. this is a reality check offered by 10,000+ people from around the world that were watching LIVE the OUTSTANDING coverage and commentary from @OakFoSho 's Ustream last night. You can see most of the coverage archived here: http://www.ustream.tv/... Here is a clip
Video streaming by Ustream
What we witnessed:
(skip to 58:35 of the above video to watch this play out)
-Cops AGAIN hit a protester with a flashbang
-Cops shoot an unarmed homeless man with a non lethal projectile (1:06:12)
-Cops attack @Oakfosho while filimg live with pepper spray filled paintballs
also:
-Many instances of protesters attempting to shut down anyone looking to cause problems or incite, and @oakfosho filming the handful of people throwing objects at police and shouting/shutting them down.
-The building squat/takeover was basically a dance party complete with a d.j. and everyone seemed to be chilling and having a good time.
-a "trashcan fire" (NOT INDISCRIMINATE FIRES) that was set to dissipate the tear gas AFTER tear gas was used without warning.
- Recounts of how after a building was spray painted, protesters took cleaning supplies and cleaned the paint themselves. (Check 22:20 of the video I posted)
etc etc etc...
M.C., your understanding of yesterdays events seem to be based on the corporate spin being used to obfuscate the MONUMENTAL and HISTORIC successful marches and protests yesterday in Oakland. There was violence yesterday, but once againthe VAST MAJORITY of it was at the hands of various California law enforcement agencies.
I ask that you, and those who recommended your diary, take a deep breath, and then take a look at evidence of protesters self policing and the ever growing evidence of unprovoked police initiated violence, and then decide if you are still comfortable making hysterical and frankly non-reality based statements like: "Kiss OWS's positive image goodbye"
