I live in Hotlanta now but still get my small hometown paper from Alabama. The paper only comes out once a week (wednesdays). This is my 3rd LTE that has been published. This one was printed a few weeks ago and it stirred up the bushbots. A letter was written in responce this week with the expected personal attacks, the best part was he said "I trust that the president, as he always has, will make the right decision". He also said there is no proof that the president has lied about anything. ha! The blindness is just amazing! I just sent my response which will hopefully be printed on wednesday. Below is the letter that stirred em up.
Dear Editor:
9/11....Do you remember that day? Apparently King George & his Republican servants in Congress do not. Imagine giving CONTROL of our vulnerable ports to the Arab country that served as both an operational & financial base for several of the 9/11 hijackers, that launders money for Al Qaeda, that served as a transfer point for shipments of smuggled nuclear components that were sent to Iran, North Korea and Libya, that was one of the very few countries that supported the Taliban! The list could go on. I guess the Republicans next move will be letting Mexico handle our border security? Bush says "people don't need to worry about security"?? Has he started drinking again? Maybe, just maybe people are finally starting to see the truth about this incompetent & corrupt Republican administration. With the recent Port fiasco they finally see that everything in this country, including national security, comes 2nd to Republican greed. Republicans have tried to cover up their failures by painting themselves as strong on security but facts do them no benefit. Remember, this is the same incompetent group that was warned as they took office about Al Qaeda & did nothing. They are the same group that received the memo over a month before 9/11 entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the United States" and did nothing. They are the group that purposely got Iran mixed up with Iraq & fixed/cherrypicked/lied about intelligence to get us into that war. Iraq had no ties to Al Qaeda and no WMD. This is the same group that in relation to security recently received grades of D's & F's from the bi-partisan 9/11 commission. They are the group that has denied request after request for increased funding for port security. Should I go on? When given a choice between security or giving the wealthy more tax cuts we know what they decided. By the way, borrowing billions of dollars from foreign governments & then giving it to people as a tax cut is not very good economic policy. It might be good politics to inattentive voters but its not good fiscal policy. Their track record has proven that the #1 priority for Republicans is enriching themselves, their campaign donors/lobbyist buddies (even Arab ones) at the expense of everything else. But this is really what we should expect from them since they only have contempt for government. In just 5 years under their incompetent leadership they have accumulated record deficits, record debts, record government waste, record corruption and what has to be a record for telling the American people lies. I remember Bush promising to run this country like a business I just did not know he meant Enron. Apparently Borrow & Spend Republicans are into checks, lots of them ,just not balances! To quote a comedian "On this groups' watch we have lost almost all our allies, the surplus, four airliners, 2 trade centers, part of the Pentagon and the city of New Orleans!" His list could have gone much further. I grew up believing in balanced budgets, staying out of foreign messes, taking care of our own first. I grew up believing our government should be of the people, by the people and for the people. Sadly Republicans have made it government of, by and for just a very few well connected people. Accountability is important, Republicans have controlled all branches of government for the last 5 years, look what it has wrought! I am not sure if we can survive their rule much longer. There is nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed by America but we better hurry up and start fixing this mess.
