Short diary warning: no profound analysis or cutting wit. Nor will there be any rah rah we're winning or oh noze, Romney is ahead chicken little waling.
I must admit that I do follow polls much too closely. I have my favorites (PPP, SUSA, Q) and pollsters I disregard (House of Ras, Gravis). I'm not a statistician and am a big fan of Nate Silver.
For the past two weeks, the media has been spun effectively into Team Rmoney's meme of Mittmentum, breathlessly reporting a tight horse race. Meanwhile, here at DKos, we recite the gospel of 538 and rejoice at anecdotes of heavy Democratic turn out with early voting and ground game.
But what is real? Follow me after the orange croissant.
I believe that Pew is as close to a non partisan pollster as there is (sorry, I think Gallup leans right). So this poll by Pew definitely caught my eye. The poll is pretty sobering and I am at a lost for explaining an alternative reality.
I'm not a concern troll, but let's face it, this election is unlike any other. From displacement from foreclosures to voter suppression to, now Sandy, there are too many wild cards to predict who will show up and who will vote for who.
I guess I'm sharing this so that folks get back to reality and not be sucked into either teams' spin. So let's keep it real and get out there vote and bring someone with you!
Prayers for all those challenged by Sandy. Everybody else--NO EXCUSES!
