Here's another great opportunity to meet up, make some new friends, and see this amazing movie.  It being the holiday season, some won't be able to attend the Dec 1st Holiday meet up so I thought this might be another great opportunity.

I definitely want to see this movie, and the price (free) is definitely doable.

Let me know below if you want to attend and we can make plans to meet up 1/2 hour before showtime.

Here's a trailer for this Sundance Film Festival, 2011 award winning show:

WOW!  The Screening will be followed by a Q+A with director Jeff Orlowski, moderated by Doug Fabrizio, host of KUER’s RadioWest.*

When National Geographic photographer James Balog asked, “How can one take a picture of climate change?” his attention was immediately drawn to ice. Soon he was asked to do a cover story on glaciers that became the most popular and well-read piece in the magazine during the last five years. But for Balog, that story marked the beginning of a much larger and longer-term project that would reach epic proportions.

In this breathtakingly beautiful documentary, filmmaker Jeff Orlowski follows the indomitable photographer as he brings to life the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS)—a massive photography project that placed 30 cameras across three continents to gather visual evidence of the Earth’s melting ice. Chasing Ice tells the story of a visionary artist who, in facing his own mortality, bequeaths the magic of photography and the adventure of the expedition to a new generation and captures the most visible sign of climate change on the planet today.

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

will be, too, stars aligning correctly of course.

Let me know if you'd like to join us.  We can meet outside.

I'm just as much interested in the Q + A after the movie as I am excited about the movie.

This will be a theater full of concerned people like us, I think.

I probably won't be able to make it to the first meetup as planned :-(

I'm not sure if my message feature is working or not.  No messages since I launched SLC Kossacks on the 18th.

Do you have any ideas of what might be a good meet up place after the holidays?  I don't know SLC that well.

      Thanks Boiseblue.

      Have a great holiday season.

ones. Do you click on your messages link even when there are no new messages? Group messages don't send new message notices. You might go to the group page and click on the messages link in the upper part of the group page to see if there are any there.

I don't' know SLC well enough to know of a good spot to meet. I visit on occasion but mostly hang out downtown.

I might still be able to make it. We had a couple unexpected bills come up for next month, and while it wouldn't be a super expensive trip, gas would still cost enough that we'd have to have a tighter budget for other things.

But that may change. I'm going to budget next week and see what we have and if we can spend the money comfortably without cutting into anything else.

        P.S. I am not a crackpot.

some meet ups to coincide with your SLC visit(s), K?

Hopefully, we have many years to create a SLC Kossack community and then branches in other areas, too.

Again, getting out is new for me after years of being quite reclusive due to caring for my mom, followed by a few years of crippling health issues (cured), and being a very active grandma.

It's time to dare to get out and meet people, have some fun, get over feeling socially awkward in Utah, and hopefully do some good for others with the strength of our numbers.

We will meet one day, BoiseBlue.  Even if no one comes to the Holiday meet up, I will still have fun there.

If nothing, I am a patient person.

You guys won't be disappointed. Well, not in the film at least. We however can all be disappointed in how slow our society has been in reacting to gw.
