Just a quick diary for any runners out there - another potential victim of the government shutdown:
The Marine Corps Marathon is scheduled to be run on Sunday, Oct. 27 in Washington, DC. However, 60 percent of the course is run on National Park Service property. According to sources for the marathon, this puts it in jeopardy of cancellation (or postponement) if the government is not reopened by this weekend:
While still considering and exploring all possible options, the MCM has targeted this Saturday, October 19 as the date to officially notify runners of the status of the event. It is sincerely the hope of everyone associated with the organization of this event that MCM participants can run as planned.
I ran it last year with the beginnings of hurricane Sandy moving through DC. It hasn't been cancelled in the 37 years it's been run.
