The last segment on Rachel's show tonight was a delicious smackdown of the universally loathsome Koch brothers. I missed the beginning, but apparently, Charles and David were so miffed at her recent reporting on some of their secret funding activities, that they had their lawyers send her instructions and a script to read on air that denies any involvement in said financing.
And Rachel was like, "I'm not going to read their script. I stand by all the reporting that has the Koch brothers so upset." (Paraphrased)
Until MSNBC posts the video (update: video at link below) and/or transcript, I only have a few small excerpts of what she said, as people tweet them. Here are a few:
"We will not stop reporting on the political actions and the consequences of the political actions of rich and powerful men."
"I will not read scripts provided to me by anyone else. I don't do requests."
"I will not renounce or retract reporting that is true, even if the subjects of that reporting don't like it."
"If you don't want to be known for something, DON'T DO IT."
and
"If you don't want to be scrutinized as public figures, consider doing things you're proud of."
Rachel then graciously invited the brothers to defend themselves in person on her show. She said her show tried to get a comment from the Kochs on her story tonight, but they declined, claiming they weren't given enough time to craft a response!
After what MSNBC did to Martin Bashir, it was especially gratifying to see this kind of fearlessness from one of their journalists.
