Gee, who could possibly have been misled by this?

The National Republican Congressional Committee is defending its misleading websites that at first glance look like websites of Democratic House candidates—but it's also going to give refunds to people scammed by the sites. First, the NRCC defended its actions:

"Democrats are clearly pitching stories on these effective websites because they are worried about voters learning the truth about their candidates' disastrous records," said NRCC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek. "Anyone who reads the website understand these are negative attacks. Also as required our disclaimer is at the bottom."

No ... I'm pretty sure that Democrats are worried about would-be Democratic donors arriving directly at misleading contribution pages via internet search and accidentally giving money to Republicans. Everyone has a website attacking their opponent's record. Everyone does not have a page that, except for one word and a small-print disclaimer, looks like it's for contributing to their opponent.

Next, the NRCC is offering refunds. But not without implying that requesting one is somehow a dirty political trick:

[NRCC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek] suggested that anyone who doesn't notice the "defeat" word on the website is actually asking for a refund on behalf of the Democratic Party.

"We will refund any other Democrat plants who are asked to donate," she said.

Right. I guess you go with what's in your playbook, and for the NRCC, the only thing there is attacking Democrats, honesty optional.
