Received this e-mail from Michelle Nunn's (D. GA) U.S. Senate campaign:
As I travel around the state, I meet a lot of women in the workforce -- many, like me, are also moms. When they talk about issues that are important to them, they often talk about good paying jobs that will allow them to be self-sufficient and to support their families. They talk about ensuring that every individual's work is honored.
Equal pay is respect for hard work and every minute we let go by without it hurts Georgia families. People should get paid for the work the do -- not who they are.
That's why I'm calling on Congress to strengthen equal pay protections, like the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Please join me today -- and urge Congress to implement equal pay protections so millions of hard-working Americans can support their families.

There is dignity in working hard and contributing to Georgia's economy – and we should respect it. Yet right now, women in Georgia are paid 81 cents for every dollar paid to men – that's a difference of $8,464 in lost wages for the average woman. Women already represent two thirds of all minimum wage workers – they can’t afford to lose pay just because of their gender.
As a mother, equal pay is an issue of particular importance to me because of its effect on our children. No one in America who works a full-time job should have to worry about being able to afford the basic necessities of clothing and feeding their children.
And equal pay isn't just good for some families; it's good for all of us. It's estimated that if the pay gap was closed in America, it could lead to a three to four percent growth in our economy.
But this Congress isn't going to act without the encouragement of our citizens. That's why it's crucial for all of us to speak out about how important it is to support equal pay, and to do it now.
Respect for hard work is a value that should bridge all party lines. The people of Georgia deserve a government that will come together in a bipartisan way to make life better for millions of Americans -- and grow our economy in the process.
Urge Congress to support equal pay, without delay: Families in Georgia and across the nation need our help today.

By the time I get to the Senate next year, I hope that Congress will have already acted on equal pay. If not, this will be one of my priorities. And it will be an issue that I will carry forward in the coming months of the campaign.
Georgia's families cannot wait and they should not have to. I appreciate your support in lifting up this important issue of fairness.
Sincerely,
Michelle Nunn
