This is what happens when Republicans are confronted by the people whose lives they want to destroy. They either ignore the problem, or get angry for it even being brought up.
Rep. Steve King was confronted yesterday by Erika Andiola and Cesar Vargas, two DREAMers who for some reason aren’t pleased that he and his colleagues in Congress want to deport them. Andiola and Vargas also introduced themselves to Sen. Rand Paul, who was attending a fundraiser for King in Okoboji, Iowa.
It’s hard to decide whether King or Paul had the worst reaction to Andiola and Vargas, whose concerns seem reasonable -- after all, if the Republican majority in the House has its way, neither will be allowed to remain in the United States.
Senator Paul reacted by nearly choking on his burger (at the 0:12 mark in the video) and escaping immediately.
Congressman King reacted by getting agitated and grabbing Andiola’s hand (at the 0:57 mark in the video) when he disagreed with what she was saying. He went on to tell her she’s “very good at English” (0:58) asks if she can “understand the English language” twice (1:02 & 1:30) and asks whether she is a drug smuggler (1:14).
The message to DREAMers is loud and clear: if you ask Republicans why they want to deport you, they’ll either hide and ignore your concerns completely, or get agitated and insult your intelligence.
