I think it had to be said. Ilya Sheyman, the executive director of MoveOn Political Action, said it:
Secretary Clinton, and any other person thinking about seeking the Democratic nomination in 2016, should think long and hard before embracing the same policies advocated by right-wing war hawks that got America into Iraq in the first place and helped set the stage for Iraq’s troubles today. These hawkish policy stances are also threatening to undermine the peaceful international resolution of Iran’s nuclear program.
Voters elected President Obama in 2008 to bring the war in Iraq to an end. MoveOn members will continue to stand with elected officials who oppose military escalation that could put us back on a path to endless war.
TPM: MoveOn Warns Clinton After Knocking Obama On Foreign Policy
If Secretary Clinton thinks that the American people want more military interventions abroad, more war, she is mistaken. This is a message she needs to hear and consider deeply. Her inner-hawk is what bothers me most about her candidacy. I said today that she is walking on thin ice, but has not broken through yet. Let's get off the ice and back on dry land; get with the American people. A candidacy based on more interventions abroad will create its own opposition, and an opposing candiate will arise.
Update I: David Axelrod also sent a message:
Axelrod fired back on Twitter.
"Just to clarify: 'Don't do stupid stuff’ means stuff like occupying Iraq in the first place, which was a tragically bad decision,” Axelrod wrote.
It was a dig at Clinton’s vote as a U.S. senator to authorize President George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq.
