I can't be in Ferguson tonight.
I can't join in a march to peacefully defy a rioting police force.
I cannot lay my body over to protect the young ones being injured for the "crime" of standing outside after sundown.
But as Dee's diary todayreminded me, there are some things I can do to support those who are there.
In Ferguson.
Tonight.
Join me below the curlicue of defiance for suggestions of how to support.
Justice denied to Mike Brown's grieving family, and all the others besieged by Ferguson authorities, threatens justice to all of us. Everywhere.
There is a coalition of organizations working to remedy that, and I've been inspired to pledge my support to each of them-at least $10 each. In the name of Mike Brown, and Ferguson, Missouri.
I invite you to join me in supporting 1 or more in whatever way you can-small dollar contribution, engaging with them as volunteers, or adding your voice to the choir demanding justice for all our children.
In Ferguson. In New York City. In Florida. Wherever you are tonight.
Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law I'm in for $25.
Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights- I'm in for $15.
National Action Network donation pending
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)Sent $25 in this morning.
NAACP-Legal Defense FundDonation pending.
National Coalition on Black Civic Participation donation pending.
A. Phillip Randolph Institute No donation button here, but I signed up for their mailing list to keep informed.
Advancement Project, $15 dollars sent.
American Civil Liberties Union $50 sent in Mike Brown's name.
Hip Hop Caucus $10 sent this morning.
These are, of course, not the only worthy organizations working in this fight. I took the list from the coalition Dee was writing about.
If you have another one to suggest below, please feel free to tell us about the work they are doing.
There is only one guarantee, if we do nothing, nothing will change.
So, let's all do SOMETHING.
