I was a career veteran soldier presently retired on inactive rolls. An officer of the Regular Army, I could be recalled at any time. I feel qualified to advise the reader that some military tasks, like the roll of the sniper, are necessary of the direst needs. Such is so where combat rubber meets combat road.
These are regrettable tasks performed as a result of circumstances beyond a line soldier's control. These tasks are; however, not laudable, they are not admirable, and they are generally prosecuted by a humanity at its absolute worst. They are only, and sadly, necessary... or people one cares about die or get maimed.
These entirely regrettable tasks are not to be in any way ballyhooed, placed on glamourous pedestals, used for partisan gain, fluffed vaingloriously, or used to push a political agenda. Where they are, they might deserve to be mocked.
