Standard advertisement: Wreck List is the Daily Kos World of Warcraft guild. We are Horde-side on the Garrosh server. We're getting close to the membership cap, so we'll have to put you on a waiting list if you want to join. To get on the list, read this diary and visit the Guild web site. Yes, you have to be Horde. No, you don't have to be hardcore - casuals, PvPers, and people that just want to hang out on guild chat are all welcome. |
More below the fold:
So I was out of town yesterday and missed Blizzard slapping six-month bans on over a hundred thousand accounts for using bots.
In response, botters have called upon the one person who can save ther treasured way of automating a game they're paying to play: President Barack Obama.
No, I'm not kidding.
Look, I live in a household that's generally actively hostile towards me playing World of Warcraft, and yet I don't find it difficult to maintain a raiding toon or two. That's only going to get easier with next patch and Mythic dungeon loot drops. I may actually be able to keep my main at progression raiding level.
And I can do it without botting.
Here's Pamena with the Team PM report:
Team PM report (no botters allowed!)
Team PM had a couple of good nights this week with our new, larger raid group configuration - we downed both Kromag and Oregorger pretty efficiently last Thursday night, and marvelled at how much saner the fights are with 16-17 people. Then we hit the train boss - well, we only had time for a ocuple of pulls, and did not get very far, but I think it will be fun to work on this fight with the group. I think it will help if everyone has the Thogar assist addon, that alerts you to which track is going to soon have a train to smush you, but I will try to call out the safe zones myself next time we try it. I've been pleasantly surprised at how well my hunter has done the last two nights (and it gives me great pleasure to be raiding with Papa and her kitty Pyewacket, my original team in WOW), and our new healing team of Tony on Tues/Rhetorica on Thurs, Muuma, Earthdream and Tvath has been doing great.
We took a crack at heroic Gruul on Tuesday and made progress, but didn't get him - it was a wipe and learn night, which I think we all agreed is its own kind of fun. It's fun, to me, to have to work at something to learn it before you finally succeed - makes the final kill that much more satisfying. And in Gruul's case, I think it's mostly a case of figuring out where to move - carelessness in getting out of cave ins is not fatal in LFR or even normal, but in heroic, you just can't afford it, at least at our gear levels. I may also bring Pamena to add to the healing team, just to see if more shields will help our tanks specifically. But we had a really good time, as we always do, which is most important - and I think everyone gets a lot of satisfaction out of working on these kind of fights as a team, without assistance from Team Kaels (who I know would be more than happy to help if they were not raiding themselves at the same time period) - we made a lot of progress and I feel sure we can get him down.
We will be losing Luna and Earthdream for the next couple of weeks - family obligations - and we will miss them, but we'll keep plugging away and see how far we can get.

Pamena also had a comment on Botpocalypse 2015:
I know Moody is talking about Blizzard's ban wave in the body of the diary, but I just wanted to add here a comment I found on one of the forums, which seems to sum up the botter's mindset to me:
"For me it was fun to set up the tool, to optimise the routines, to understand the technical stuff behind it, to see if it can be better then a human player, to see if a programm can be made intelligent enough to do the same as a normal player. To be honest, it does it better in most cases. Bots move out of shit on the floor, uses the abillities in a better way and is more efficient.
Not to mention, it does all the stuff that you don't like to spend your time on for you so your limited free time can be used for stuff you like to do. You like raiding but have no gold/time to farm your mats? Use your free time to raid and let the bot farm the gold/mats while you are cleaning your house."
This perfectly states how botters justify breaking the rules - they're playing a different game from the one I play, apparently, one called "Set up Automated Play so I Can Do Something Else I Need/Want to Do Instead" Or perhaps "Make the Machine Press the Buttons Faster So I Can Top the Charts Without Actually Playing the Toon".
May they all be permabanned the next time they're caught - because you KNOW they will be botting again as soon as they get new accounts. I read one commenter that said 4 or 5 people on his raid team were frantically levelling new 90's today because their main accounts with their raiding toons got banned. The botter tears are delicious!

Finally, here's Taymatt with the Team Kaels report:
It's been a very long time since Team Kaels has had any news regarding progression, largely because of big changes in the raid composition plus some absences. Our paladin tank Ninotchka is taking a well-deserved and fully-understandable break from the game. One of our warlocks (Carune) has graciously switched to his druid tank (Gromn). We've spent some time gearing Gromn, as well as at least one returning member and some alts.
Despite all of these changes, we've managed to fit in a handful of progression days, and it paid off last Thursday. We were finally able to defeat the Iron Maidens on Heroic difficulty. Our first progression boss with the new composition, yay!

I wasn't able to make it Sunday due to Mother's Day stuff, so hopefully Tvath or someone can fill us in with a Team Z report in the comments.
That's all I have for this week. For the Horde!
