Radley Balko of the
Washington Post says it best: "There is no 'war on cops' and those who claim otherwise are playing a dangerous game."
In all of recorded American history, 2015 is on pace to be the second safest year ever for American police officers. Shooting deaths of officers are down an astounding 83 percent from their all-time high. When conservatives state, over and over again, that there is a war on cops, this isn't only a lie—it's also the worst kind of fear-mongering.
Here are the facts: As of September 11, 2015, 827 women and men have been killed by American police. We are pace to have an all-time high of nearly 1,200 people killed by police this year. Police, on the other hand, are expected to suffer 35 felonious gun deaths this year—the second lowest total recorded since 1900.
Who is really waging the war here? Who is killing whom?
During a single grisly week in July, police killed more people than the total number of officers who will be shot and killed this entire year. But it's the police who are facing a war?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is a hoax, a ruse, a fraud, a phony public relations conspiracy designed to rally the conservative base during a presidential election year.
Don't take my word for it. Radley Balko has a dozen unbiased graphs and studies that you have to see for yourself. You'll see, in no uncertain terms, that this war on police is a sad and dangerous lie. Check them out here.
