All summer, traditional media headlines
have been screaming "Obamcare premiums soar!" and people who actually know how this stuff works
have said "not so fast." Now that those proposed rate increases are actually starting to be set by the states, maybe we can start talking reality. Let's let Kaiser Family Foundation start.
They looked at premium increases in 13 major cities for 2016 and found a modest 3.1 percent increase overall.
Yeah, Portland is a big unpleasant outlier. But it's an outlier. And at 3.1 percent, those premium increases are still significantly less than the average rate hikes in the few years before Obamacare, at
10 percent a year and higher.
