Senator Sanders gave an outstanding speech Wednesday 28th at George Mason Univ. of Virginia where he fielded questions from students from all over on wide-ranging topics; something I've seen few if any candidates do in such an unscripted, uncensored manner.
Sanders is, by virtue of his repeated willingness to confront and answer any question thrown his way in a clear, serious, and direct manner, head and shoulder above any other candidate, including Hillary Clinton. It is this trait which has flummoxed and caused fear amongst those who oppose him. He is and has been in recent history unequaled and consistent in his progressive ideology and political morality. That is indeed a rare thing these days, particularly in this presidential campaign which amazingly, includes a cast of almost cartoon-like egregiously unqualified candidates. Fact checking will bear this rarity out for those who may disagree.
Particularly moving was an Islamic female student who asked Sen. Sanders to respond to the Islam-ophobia so prevalent today in society and politics, especially Republican politics. You could tell Sanders was moved too, as he beckoned her to join him at the podium where they exchanged warm hugs and pats to raucous applause. I can't imagine any Republican candidate doing that unless they wanted to get out of the campaign. During the last Republican debate in Colorado, the only candidate who I thought expressed any real humanity for the have-nots was bass guitar playing Mike Huckabee, but everyone knows he doesn't have a prayer (pun intended) of advancing. Hey guys! Let's mix church and state, OK? What could possibly go wrong there?
Hopefully some readers will take the time to view Sanders' speech on youtube. I don't know if it's appropriate to include the link, so I won't, but it's easily accessible for anyone interested. BTW, the upcoming new look for the Daily Kos is pretty slick. I think both regular and new viewers will enjoy it. Adios for now....
