Ben Carson's beliefs about the Pyramids are just the tip of the iceberg and I'm not sure we're giving it enough attention. Like a ship in icy waters, if the United States doesn't steer away soon, it will be too late.
Carson's deliberate anti-intellectualism is very disturbing. It's emblematic of a growing movement among America's religious extremists and right wing "don't tread on me" libertarians that started back in the 70s and has been picking up steam since the election of President Obama. Throw in Faux news' non-reality based hucksterism and I think you have the biggest challenge to the American Dream since the Civil War. You can't have democracy, liberty, and equality without the knowledge of what those mean.
You can have your own opinion, but you can't have your own facts. To make up facts, exclude others, and defame the messenger to weaken his facts just so you can continue to believe in a book of fairy tales and allegories set thousands of years ago and even then with only a thin thread of attachment to reality is pernicious at best and a deliberate attack on America at worst. They wrap themselves in the flag, but use it as a shield for their lies, half-truths, and fabrications. They are the enemy and they must be stopped.
