The jury tasked with coming to a verdict on William Porter is deadlocked, according to a tweet from Reuters (below). Porter’s trial is the first of six consecutive trials of six Baltimore police officers charged with the death of Freddie Gray, who died from spinal injuries sustained after an arrest earlier this year. Reports from the courtroom say that the jury deliberated last night and has deliberated for 11 straight hours before Judge Barry G. Williams ordered them to continue.
The outcome of this trial and the evidence admitted, including key testimony from Porter himself, will be important to the outcome of the remaining five trials. Porter is charged with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, misconduct in office, and reckless endangerment.
