is reporting that
The hack of the Florida contractor comes on the heels of hacks in Illinois, in which personal data of tens of thousands of voters may have been stolen, and one in Arizona, in which investigators now believe the data of voters was likely exposed.
I have asked before in comments how we can prevent Russia from hacking election systems and changing results and received some replies that sounded reassuring but that was before I read this article. The answer I got is that they would have to hack machine by machine in order to effectively change the results of the elections and that that is highly unlikely.
Well according to this CNN article, they seem to be trying to do just that. Should we sit back and let the FBI figure this out or should we demand that Obama and the Feds secure those machines?
I know we have the polls and that results cannot vary that much from the predicted outcome. But what if after hacking the DNC servers, and now hacking election servers, they became more adept at hacking anything? It seems like the US government is very vulnerable to hacking and has a weak security system to protect its data.
An FBI spokeswoman said the bureau and the Department of Homeland Security hosted a conference call with Florida state officials to address questions regarding the security of election systems and to share information regarding the general nature of the cyber threat. FBI and DHS continue to work closely with state officials to assist them in safeguarding their election infrastructures.
...
FBI investigators believe the the hacks and attempted intrusions of state election sites were carried out by hackers working for Russian intelligence
And if we have early voting results, doesn’t that give Russia a full months or at least weeks to get into those systems and change the results? What can prevent them from doing it? They seem to have the ability to do it, the funding, and the motivation.
Are we not hearing about this or not talking about this because we fear it may suppress the vote? I would prefer to hear a lot about this and hear what Homeland security and the FBI are doing to prevent this from continuing to happen. I would like to hear something reassuring like for example, hear that they have loaned some of the most expert data security people from Epic Electronic Medical Records, Turbotax, from the major banks IT teams, and other companies with a lot of sensitive data to help protect our democracy.
