No pearls of wisdom, just ranting to get this off of my chest.
What can I say? It has been many months since I last wrote...and my worst fear has happened; Donald Trump has been elected President of the United States of America. Those conducting the autopsy on this election will probably never figure out what happened.
I have been voting in every election for nearly fifty years. Except for 2000, I have never seen such a travesty. At least George W. Bush was mostly just incompetent and stupid. Donald Trump adds dangerous and incendiary to the mix. My wife wandered around the house for weeks, mumbling and crying. I was angry and disheartened. Now, our worst fear has come true: The Electoral College has confirmed this incompetent asshole as our president. We are in shock and deflated. It’s like someone has drained the energy from our bodies. Aside from being upset and pissed-off, we feel as though we have been betrayed by our fellow citizens and the Electoral College. Maybe, with time, we will begin to understand what happened, and how it happened. What is so hard for me to understand is how so many people fell for his bullshit. How did a two-bit jerk-off like Donald Trump convince nearly half of the voting public that he was the better choice? Yes I did say nearly. As the very limited recounts were underway, more and more votes (nearly 3 million) were being counted for Hillary Clinton. Voting machine results were being questioned. Tampering by the Russian government has been openly admitted by their officials. Putin was one of the first foreign leaders to congratulate Trump on his victory. There are so many things wrong with his election win that I cannot even count all of them.
Now, we are seeing the aftermath of this travesty. Look at his cabinet appointments — he lied to us about draining the swamp of alligators; he has added crocodiles, known predators to humans.
This man has lied through his teeth about everything; nothing positive that he has promised will come true. I can’t believe that nearly half of the people in this country believed his bullshit. Wanting change is one thing, selling your soul to the devil to get it is quite something else. Besides, we know that the devil always exacts a very heavy price.
At the risk of rambling incessantly, I have made my point. My wife and I do not like Donald Trump, any of his picks, and most of the party. Quite frankly, we fear for our retirement incomes, our healthcare, and our lives. If we lose our incomes and our healthcare, we will be dead. We can’t afford to buy healthcare on the open market, especially not with my health problems (my insulin alone is over $800/month — a very sizeable chunk of our combined retirement and Social Security incomes, higher than our house payment). If we take any appreciable financial hit, we will go under, financially.
At this time of year I would like to offer everyone best wishes and glad tidings for whatever holiday you may celebrate. Peace on Earth, good will toward everyone. Pray for each other.
Enough; I am done, for now. I pray that I am wrong — nothing would make me happier; and, I will be ecstatic to admit to it. Of course, there are those (my wife included) who tell me that I am delusional and need professional supervision — hopefully, they are also wrong.
Until next time...
