Because that well might happen a couple weeks from now. Would conservation orgs turn the money down? Who will get the money? Would conservation orgs be in for a PR nightmare.
Before I go too far down this road I should explain conservation orgs are not the environmental whackos who now call themselves conservationists because they have so sullied the word environmentalist that they are ashamed to call themselves that. Conservation orgs conserve, they don’t spend their budgets litigating and fund raising.
Conservation is buying habitat, improving habitat, funding scientific study, etc. You know, like Teddy Roosevelt who brought us our park system and started the Boone and Crockett Club of which the younger Trump was the youngest full time board member. You know, Trump the younger who is a lifetime member of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA) the left most hunting org in the US, who sat around with the Union funded Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) a couple weeks ago to choose a Sec of Int.
Last week the Trump sons along with a couple of lawyers started a conservation org registered in Texas called Opening Day. I think it’s a conduit to funnel the cash they are raking in via their inauguration gala. A way to collect funds via a non profit offers opportunities for deniability of donations. If any of the orgs that end up with money the people donating can say they’d no idea where it was headed.
This is the new face of conservation, I’d wait and see before making too much of a stink. Do you wish to conserve wildlife or not? Teddy Roosevelt was also an African hunter, as was Nelson Mandela. The method of conservation promoted by both Mandela and Roosevelt and the Trump sons and our Fish and Wildlife Service and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is an effective one.
I’d wait with all the accusations and funny little Cheney jokes until we see where the money is donated to. I’ve read a couple very ignorant uninformed posts over the past couple days in just this subject. Ignorance has done us little good at the ballot box, might be it’s time to stop the partisanship and do a little consideration. Conservation of big game might be unimportant in the grand scheme of things, less important certainly than making ignorant anti hunter comments, but conservation is far more than lions and elephants and grizzly bears, conservation is also pollution and global warming.
Long term denying Republicans a place at the conservation table is detrimental to all of us.
