Arguing, it’s what we do. You can call it debating but someone might argue the point with you. Some of us live for it. It drives our reason for getting online. Others of us love it as a spectator sport, rubbernecking as the collisions occur and all carnage is thrown about. Some of us run the other way avoiding even the chance that someone might correct them or OMG! he/she shouted at me. Some avoid all conflict, then why are you here?
Most of my adult life I’ve been in either some form of customer service or sales. Both require personal interaction with individuals. Learning to read people is a skill you have to acquire. Now part of that skill is visual and when we engage online that part of the skill is blunted, the only visual we have is the written word. There is no crossed arms and/or legs cuing us in to the closed mind. We can’t see the quirk on the face of someone toying with our position. We also miss the vocal cues.
For the past week I’ve been engaged in a conversation online with two HS classmates. It started over why socialism hasn’t taken on here in the US. I know, I know, that’s what I argued too. Of course the argument moved on to fascism and Nazism. One party tried to argue that both are left wing based political ideologies as are (in his mind) all dictatorships. Now doesn’t that one just blow your mind?
We have tons of bright intelligent people on this site. They’re also very passionate. Over the next nine months there’s going to be some feelings hurt. Some of them justifiably so. Others will just be made because their side didn’t win. I only have this to say;
GROW THE FUCK UP!
We have a greater battle to win and we don’t have time for you to lick your wounds and pout about so and so said this, so and so said that. Well boo-fucking-hoo. What are two years old? Passionate people say passionate things and sometime they get carried away and deliver a low blow. I hope you’ve been in a relationship sometime in your life, then you know, even people who dearly love you deliver low blows to win an argument. You work it out. Kiss and make up, then move on. We need everyone’s effort to keep the GOP from getting their way.
Do I have a preferred candidate? Yes I do, but things may or may not work out the way I want. The country and the planet can’t afford to have the losing candidates followers disengage. So for the sake of the planet, GROW UP!
