thanks to the internet, i stumbled upon this info within a couple of minutes after reading an Emptywheel tweet about james comey.
I recalled those names, but not the exact details of the hospital incident. so i googled. it was a john ashcroft thing. he stood up to alberto gonzales (fuck i still hate that name) over the warrantless wiretapping program.
so i’m then reading a 2007 thinkprogress story on it.
thinkprogress.org/…
next, I wonder: is john ashcroft still alive? so i wiki. he is. ok. what does he do now? i scroll down past his credits for Blackwater/Xe/whatever it is now, and end up scrolling too far. it’s the bottom of wiki article and it’s telling me that he was in a barbershop quartet with a few other GOPers including larry craig.
i recognize that name. airport guy. time to google him, what is he doing now? he’s a consultant. of course. seems like there’s job openings for so many of those guys, even though I see them on twitter once in a while and they’re always wrong (“Trump lost the debate in SC by insulting Bush family”, they proclaimed….ah, how cute). Then I hit back button and see the next google search result: Linked In.
click on that and the two job titles for larry craig are : consultant, and NRA board member.
if there isn’t a more apt metaphor for how a lot of american men with strange penis-to-universe relationships exist on the gun control political spectrum, then I don’t know what is.
