The video below was loaded up last week to Youtube and is titled “Lesbian harassed and forced to leave a public restroom because the police insist she’s a man.” The video is originally from December, but is making the rounds around the internet now in light of the recent string of transphobic laws being implemented and/or discussed around the country. It shows an unidentified woman and her friends being told to leave a woman’s bathroom by two male cops and a female cop. There’s very little other information to go on. Where and when exactly this took place is a mystery and I would invite more information down below in the comments. The video begins with the sound of the woman’s friend, off-camera, as they are arguing with the police officers.
This is a girl and you guys are harassing her because she’s a dyke?
The woman in question says that she is indeed “a girl.” One of the policemen responds:
Policeman: Do you have ID?
Woman: No.
Policeman: Then get out. Out! You got no ID then get out!
Even though all of the woman’s FEMALE friends are explaining that she is a woman, the police proceed to push her up against a wall and out of the bathroom—the male police are in a woman’s public restroom manhandling a woman. Hypothetically, if she had pulled her clothing off to reveal her body in a “proof” of gender, would she be arrested for exposing herself in public?
