Desperate times and desperate measures, Gabby Giffords’s PAC endorsed Mark Kirk (and Pat Toomey) — this does seem to have other agendas aside from supporting GOP efforts in non-urban demographic areas like downstate Illinois and central Pennsylvania. Blue-doggery still persists in situations that fracture party unity.
Republican Senator Mark Kirk has been endorsed by Americans For Responsible Solutions, an organization started by former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords (D-Az.) and her husband, Mark Kelly, that encourages elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership.
“Senator Mark Kirk has been a steady voice for bipartisan, responsible change that helps keep guns out the wrong hands, saves lives, and makes Illinois a safer place to live. He has stood up to the gun lobby and worked across the aisle for plans that reduce gun violence and protect the rights of law-abiding Americans,” said Peter Ambler, Executive Director of Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC. “We need more Republican leaders in Congress like Mark Kirk, and that’s why we are endorsing him for re-election in 2016.”
Senator Kirk was one of two Republican Senators to receive an endorsement from Americans For Responsible Solutions.
“In the wake of tragedy at Sandy Hook, Republicans Sens. Pat Toomey and Mark Kirk broke from the gun lobby and supported a bill to help prevent felons, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill from obtaining firearms at gun shows and online,” Giffords and Kelly wrote in a CNN op-ed. “This week, they are earning our organization’s endorsement.”
Lines are being drawn for upcoming debates
Senate Democrats are going to force another vote on the "no fly, no buy" bill they've already offered several times to keep people who are on the terrorist watch list from legally buying firearms. Because there currently is no prohibition on potential terrorists legally buying firearms.
At least one Republican—Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk, the Republican most at risk of losing his seat—told reporters Tuesday he would support the measure and is hopeful his Republican colleagues would join in. Kirk was the only Republican to vote for the amendment when it was introduced at the end of last year.

My first State of the Union guest as a Member of Congress was Denise Reed, a Chicago mother who lost her daughter, a 14-year old honor roll student named Starkesia, to gun violence.
That was in 2013, not long after the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. It’s unconscionable that now, nearly 3 years later and with far too many more lives lost, Congress still has yet to pass gun safety legislation.
A group of Democratic Senators are renewing the push for reform by introducing new common sense legislation to prevent gun violence. Tell Congress it’s time to act.

While Illinois has long had robust safeguards to ensure that criminals and the dangerously mentally ill cannot purchase guns, keeping Illinoisans safe also requires that we stem the flow of illegal guns from neighboring states.
No one should be able to buy a gun without a background check. We also must crack down on illegal gun trafficking and straw purchases. These are sensible solutions that will save lives, and Congress has already delayed long enough.
We cannot stop demanding action on this issue until the job is done. Add your name now in support of gun safety legislation:
