This was my feel good moment for the day. For those of you who may not know her, or if her name has slipped your mind Jane Goodall is a world renowned anthropologist, specializing in primatology, the study of primates. And after watching one Donald J. Trump in the GOP primary debates, she has reached a definitive conclusion. In an article on The Hill she has seen his style before, in male chimps;
“In order to impress rivals, males seeking to rise in the dominance hierarchy perform spectacular displays: stamping, slapping the ground, dragging branches, throwing rocks.”
Goodall compared the GOP presidential nominee specifically to a chimp she wrote about in “My Life With the Chimpanzees” named Mike.
Mike kicked kerosene cans down the road as he walked as a dominance ritual, creating a noise that alarmed and scared off his rivals.
“The more vigorous and imaginative the display, the faster the individual is likely to rise in the hierarchy, and the longer he is likely to maintain that position,” Goodall said.
See?!? When I kept comparing Trump in flight during the debates as a howler monkey, flinging shit balls around, everybody thought I was just being funny. So did I. But it turns out that I only had the species wrong, not the activity. Dame Jane Goodall has been studying chimps for most of her life. In 1988 she wrote a bestselling book, “My life with the chimpanzees” in which she chronicled her experiences while studying the animals. If she says that Trump acts like a chimp, I’m more than ready to believe her!
Thanks as always for reading!
