I am totally unaware that he has expressed any interest in running for President, but my wife and I were chatting last night and here’s why I raise the question.
Let’s assume reality TV star Donald Trump is again the nominee. Isn’t it worthwhile to consider the one Democrat with the most experience of TV, both as a writer and as someone who appeared? He has an understanding of the medium that most politicians do not.
There is NO DOUBT of his progressive bona fides.
He does not come across as an elitist or a career politician (which he is not) but he talks in a way that speaks to ordinary folk.
He is from a Midwestern State, but also would have strong appeal in the coastal states that remain the base of the Democratic party.
Oh, and as someone Jewish, that would play very well in several states we lost this time with fairly substantial Jewish populations, specifically FL, PA and maybe even OH.
The more I have watched him in his questioning of people like De Vos, the more I have been impressed.
And he absolutely knows how to get under the skin of people on the right. Think of two of his book titles:
Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot
and
Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.
On the second, Fox News lost a copyright infringement case against Franken’s use of “fair and balanced.” In fact, the Judge in the case suggested that Fox’s copyrighting of the phrase might be unbalanced.
Related to the 2nd book, Franken and Bill O’Reilly had had a heated debate, and Franken (and others) believe the Fox suit was insisted upon by O’Reilly. BTW, that suit helped promote the book to the top of several best-seller lists.
Just an out of the box suggestion to consider?
Peace.
