Honestly, I thought it would be Ted Cruz. Ted seemed like just the kind of smarmy asshole who would try to grab up the tr00 consurvative mantle after a failure by Donald Trump.
It appears as though Ted is enough of a favorite of Steve Bannon and his Spencer funding that maybe he won’t be as vocal about Trump as he might have otherwise been. And other than a little bit of positioning during the ACA fight, Ted has been mercifully silent.
But now Politico is reporting that Flake won’t rule out a 2020 bid, which would mean that he is planning to primary Trump. I’m not going to link it, because it isn’t really that big of a story.
It does, however, shed a little bit more light on Flake’s decision to “retire” and give such a “principled” apology from the floor of the Senate.
It remains to be seen whether Flake will run in 2020. But I think it’s a dead-solid given that Trump will be primaried in 2020. This is, assuming, that he hasn’t been impeached and removed from office.
