On Thursday, Ajit Pai successfully repealed the net neutrality protections that were put into place two years ago under President Obama. On Wednesday, Politico reported on an internal email from the FCC’s chief technological officer Eric Burger—a man appointed by Ajit Pai a couple of months ago—that worries about the potential for ISPs to throttle websites.
"Unfortunately, I realize we do not address that at all," Burger said in the email. "If the ISP is transparent about blocking legal content, there is nothing the [Federal Trade Commission] can do about it unless the FTC determines it was done for anti-competitive reasons. Allowing such blocking is not in the public interest."
Of course according to Pai, nobody need worry about this happening because he can’t feel anything anymore since his soul was captured by a troll and stored inside a vault underneath Verizon’s lobbyist headquarters. Luckily Burger and an unnamed FCC source—which I will call Satan Troll—was quick to tell Politico that everything was “addressed.”
The official said that some clarifying language was added to the order and that Burger replied Wednesday afternoon to say his concerns were "fully addressed." The official also noted that the CTO was focused on one section of the order and not the part that dealt with the rules.
Good to know. Problem solved.
