In two separate moments on last night’s Real Time with Bill Maher Senior Breitbart Editor Alt-Right professional internet troll Milo Yiannopoulos was told to “Go Fuck Yourself” by Larry Willmore after he proclaimed that transgendered people are some kind of sexual threat to women and children.
“I think it’s just sad because these are that same arguments that were used against gay people, like they were aliens who just wanted to f*ck anything that moved, and that’s why we should avoid them,” Wilmore began as Milo attempted to cut in, only to have Wilmore cut him off with a curt, “Well, then let me finish my thought please.”
“There is a difference without a distinction,” Wilmore continued. “It’s like when people try and compare gay and black. Yeah, they’re not the same thing, but we share the same invisibility. People didn’t see us in society, and gay people hid out from society. But there are a lot of the same issues that you have to deal with when you’re marginalized.”
After some back and forth, Milo complained to host Maher that he needed to have guests on with “higher IQ’s.”
By then, Wilmore had had enough.
“Hold on, Bill,” Wilmore said as host Bill Maher attempted to move the conversation forward. “First of all, you can go f*ck yourself. If your argument is that these people are stupid, you didn’t hear a word this man [former intelligence analyst Malcolm Nance] said. Because he can talk circles around your pathetic douchey little ass.”
So Milo, who is an openly gay man and at the time was wearing multiple pearl necklaces and bangly bracelets , thinks that transgendered people who identify as female have “psychological problems.” Hey Kettle, guess what?
Wilmore than told him “Go Fuck Yourself” again over Milo’s racist trolling of comedian Leslie Jones which got him banned from Twitter.
It should be noted that there was supposed to another guest on this show, journalist Jeremy Scahill, who refused to appear because of Milo’s presense.
"Appearing on 'Real Time' will provide Yiannopoulos with a large, important platform to openly advocate his racist, anti-immigrant campaign. It will be exploited by Yiannopoulos in an attempt to legitimize his hateful agenda. Yiannopoulos’s appearance could also be used to incite violence against immigrants, transgender people, and others at a time when the Trump administration is already seeking to formalize a war against some of the most vulnerable people in our society."
Later in the discussion Milo and former NSA analyst Malcolm Nance go at it over the relative downsides of electing Clinton vs. Trump contrasting the threat of Saudi Arabia against Russian Spies.
Nance : You’re comparing Saudi Arabia to Russian Spies? Are you American?
Milo: No.
Nance: Oh, fuck you!
Milo’s response to this was classic for a soulless empathy and fact diminished troll. He loved it. He considered it a “win” that he had managed to “trigger” both Willmore and Nance. He then tried, nearly begging, for the third guest former Congressman Jack Kingston to drop an F-Bomb on him so he would have the full Trifecta. Maher obliged him instead “Fuck you, shut up!”
Here’s the thing about Trolls, they exist and thrive on getting people upset and angry, on getting them to react because they think that shit’s funny. The entire point is that some things simply aren’t funny to everyone in the same way, they live in this absolutist world where there are no boundaries and no limit to the fucked up shit you can say about and to people. Of course free speech is important, but hate speech is dangerous. And even though their entire point is to get a negative reaction, the same way a bully isn’t just about physical domination they want to break you emotionally, when they get their desired result they deny any and all responsibility for having generated a fairly predictable response.
They’re emotional terrorists masquerading as comedians.
Not only can their individual attacks cause emotional harm, there can be a tendency for them to enable and embolden others to pile on and even escalate verbal attacks to physical assaults and more. It’s not just about Milo making a mean rude joke, it’s about his underlying propaganda and rhetoric being adopted to rationalize bigoted policies, actions and potentially violence. And when you catch them in an unguarded moment they’ll admit that it’s not just “fun and word games” but part of advancing an agenda of intolerance and ignorance. Inspiring others to feel their is a “safe space” to be out with their hatred is exactly the point.
Sure, it sometime can be fun to do “the dozens” with someone. To trade profane “Yo Mama” jokes back and forth, but one of the requirements of that kind of banter is having a trust between the participants where they are all aware the comments, no matter how mean, are not meant to be taken to heart, that they’re not meant to be taken literally or seriously. But it’s clear, particularly in this live setting, that Milo isn’t really joking. He means what he’s saying when he attacks transgendered people or African-American actresses like Leslie Jones for being illiterate.
“She can barely spell” he says. Oh yeah, well Trump can barely read or comprehend, so there.
The only way to deal with them, is not to deal with them as Scahill determined. They’re an open tire fire, don’t feed them more oxygen. They honestly don’t deserve an equal seat at the table of ideas.
However, there is a value in observing a unrepentant troll like Milo, or Tomi Lahren, in their own environment so you can fully recognize exactly what they are. Here’s Milo talking alone with Maher and it’s obvious what he is.
Complete total human pond scum. And I don’t say that because I’m “triggered”, it’s because that’s what he is.
