Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Al Franken (D. MN) in support of Rob Quist’s (D. MT-AL) campaign:
“Outside political groups so far have spent $4.5 million to influence Montana’s special congressional race – and the vast majority of that money is favoring Republican Greg Gianforte.” -KTVH, 5/12/17
Montana’s special election is pitting a rancher and small business owner against a billionaire -- and despite millions in outside spending by Washington Republicans, polls are showing the special interests just might lose.
Rob Quist, the Democrat running to fill the vacant statewide House seat, was born and raised on a Montana ranch. He’s raised more than $5 million on the strength of around 200,000 people contributing an average of $25. So the billionaire is responding the way billionaires always do -- he cut a million-dollar check to his campaign, according to news reports.
And of course the special interest cash is pouring into Montana to help Quist's opponent.
If the Republicans think their money is going to scare off a grassroots movement in Montana, they’ve got another thing coming. I’m asking you to donate to Rob Quist’s campaign before the election on May 25th.
He’s averaging a $25 contribution, but I think we can do better than that. Please give whatever you can.
Rob embodies Montana’s western values. He comes from a ranching family. He supports a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, equal pay for equal work, and a higher tax rate on the ultra-wealthy.
Rob’s opponent is a Trump-supporting billionaire who backed Trump’s politically motivated firing of former FBI Director James Comey. He opposes marriage equality, and he uses his billions to bankroll anti-LGBT organizations like Focus on the Family. Last November, Montanans rejected Rob’s opponent when he was running for governor -- in a state that Trump carried by double digits, that tells you a lot about what this guy stands for.
Special elections are all about turnout, and that’s where we can help Rob’s team. Give them the resources to get out the vote in these final days. Make a contribution right now.
Thanks,
Al
P.S. No, seriously, make a contribution right now -- polls open in 24 hours, and if you wait, it really will be too late. Let’s give Rob’s team a grassroots boost and push them to victory in Montana.
