Russia is not the problem
I do not believe Russia hates the United States and is out to destroy our way of life. Russia’s intelligence services did their tradecraft in our election, fighting for its interests, just as U.S. intelligence services have done in other democratic elections since post-war Italy.
Before the U.S. Constitution had freedom of speech or right to bear arms, it had the Emoluments clause, the presidential natural born citizen requirement and a clear definition of treason as cooperating with outside actors. Our founders were deeply concerned about great power intervention in our democracy.
Traitors are
U.S. citizens cooperating with a foreign government to determine the result of a domestic election is constitutional apostasy and a fundamental betrayal of our democracy.
Before the U.S. Constitution had freedom of speech or right to bear arms, it had the Emoluments clause, the presidential natural born citizen requirement and a clear definition of treason as cooperating with outside actors. Our founders were deeply concerned about great power intervention in our democracy. A concern rooted back before our revolution to the French and Indian Wars where powers gamed natives and colonials for advantage. Our constitution was deliberately framed to keep direct foreign interference at bay.
This betrayal must be rooted out, otherwise subsequent campaigns at all levels will see foreign assistance as a viable campaign strategy.
Investigate to strengthen our democracy
I want to learn who is complicit in accepting Russian assistance to gain advantage in a domestic election. This betrayal must be rooted out, otherwise subsequent campaigns at all levels will see foreign assistance as a viable campaign strategy, leaving elected leaders in thrall to whatever foreign government provides them aid.
But, there is much more to learn. We, as a country, should have been more intellectually resilient to resist the Trump-Russian campaign. That is our collective failing. Any honest and useful investigation must uncover all our faults to strengthen our democracy and citizenry for the future.
