My grandparents were Republicans and I remember them watching the RNC convention with Reagan and pointing out how much they liked him. My grandfather was chief of police of a small town in Ohio for 25 plus years and even attended FBI training at Quantico. I never brought up politics with him until the John McCain and Barack Obama election of 2008. To my surprise he said he hated McCain with a passion and said he would not vote for the first time in his life. Later on when McCain picked Sarah Palin, I asked my grandfather what he thought of her and he happily replied “I love me some Sarah Palin.” That’s when I put two and two together and figured out he was actually a right wing nut job. I already knew he was a racist, but this came as bit of a shock to me. After much thought, the realization came to me that my grandfather was hiding behind the flag of the United States to cover his racism.
The argument that RWNJ’s are the most patriotic citizens is actually a bunch of bologna. They tell that to themselves as a cover up of their racism towards anyone who is not a white Christian and according to Pew Research 32% of citizens believe you have to be white and Christian to be considered a real American. Let that sink in for a second, a third of our country believes they are the real Americans and no one else matters. So when a 38% approval rating for Trump is reported, just know that is his base who will never relinquish the fact that our White House has been infiltrated by Russia.
I was born in 1972 under the Nixon administration. It would be two years later he would resign in disgrace for Watergate, not for the actual idiotic break in of the DNC headquarters, but for the cover up. Here it is 45 years later and America is faced with the same dilemma, not the crime of setting up back channels and in my opinion colluding with Russia, but for the cover up. Colluding because of Trump’s plea to the Russians to hack and release Hillary Clinton’s “missing” 30,000 plus emails.
It makes me mildly nausea to think that after growing up during the Cold War, that our country would be hijacked by the likes of V. Putin and his thugs for nothing more than a big oil deal with Exxon. Trump is owned by Putin and everyone is coming to that realization except for the RWNJ’s and why is that? Why do they still defend Trump? I dove into some Twitter feeds to come up with reasons and this tweet stood out:
One could debate that all Presidential candidates fit into the seven reasons listed above, but number 7 should be the actual clear indicator of the true reasons why RWNJ’s love Trump. They have been told time and time again throughout history that their main reason for not succeeding in America was due to illegals and blacks taking their jobs. Instead of better educating themselves, they turn to the pulpit of anger and despair hoping one day a Messiah will return them to glory and riches. The oligarch continues to lie to them and after decades of doing so you would think they would catch on that riches will never reach them and instead will be robbed blind. This type of idol worshiping has never had a positive page written about them in the history books and never will. The United States of America from sea to shining sea is made up of hundreds of ethnic backgrounds and religions and a majority of white Christians feel they are superior. I know my grandfather felt that way.
We are a tribal society longing to belong and figure out why we are here on this tiny blue dot called Earth. The pulpits, politicians, and activists are trying to educate and promote a more unified society and numbers are shifting in their favor, but this Trump administration is a set back to the progress already made.
Demonizing only splits this country in half, those who want control and those who want unity. When you are promised money, power, and control it is easy to succumb to the racists and treasonous acts of others, especially those of the Trump administration. For one side to overlook the over whelming reports of Russia interfering in our election does not make them patriots, no they lost that talking point. You know Trump was right about one thing. He can shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in New York and not lose his core voters, but what he doesn’t realize is he would still be arrested, tried, convicted, and sent to jail.
As for my grandfather, he died of cancer under our first black President without glory and riches.
