Welcome to the twenty-sixth and ultimate entry in our Backyard Science “Alphabet” series. (Or at least Series 1!) Today’s Bucket is brought to you by the letter “Z”.
The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

* — Probably cheating here. Zooerythrine entries on the net seem to all trace back to a 1913 Webster’s Dictionary entry: “A peculiar organic red coloring matter found in the feathers of various birds.” With no details on who the various birds are. So we are gonna claim the flamingo since I like this picture. :p
** — More cheating since this is probably not a Black Vulture, but an immature Turkey Vulture. Yes folks, Z is a hard one in terms of my photo archive.
[No pictures for zinnia, zucchini, fennec fox (Vulpes Zerda), or Indian Corn (Zea Mays)]
