The artist known as Moby is giving the alt-right/conservative community fits with “In This Cold Place”. It’s an animated music video that references a lot of pop culture to provide a brutal take on TrumpWorld, the future that turned out very different from the one we were hoping for.
Billboard has noticed the conservative outrage. (These days, the labels alt-right, conservative, and neo-Nazi overlap for all practical purposes.) This capsule description might give you an idea why.
Originally, on June 12, Moby & the Void Pacific Choir dropped a new album, These Systems Are Falling, accompanied by a parody press release “from the desk of John Miller” speaking out against the electronic artist. Then, following the album’s release on June 19, the DJ released a Steve Cutts animated music video for “In This Cold Place,” which features dystopian versions of cartoons that parallel American politics and a depiction of Trump as a Nazi robot.
Raw Story also reports on the video, and has conservative reactions to it.
“Moby cartoon video corrupting children into hatred and accepting violence against President Trump” reads the headline of a post at the American Thinker blog decrying the “Trump derangement syndrome” apparent in the satirical cartoon.
“The artistic quality and budget of this video overshadow anything Hamas could produce. But as I see it, Moby and Cutts are breeding fanatics, just as the Palestinians do,” American Thinker’s Thomas Lifson wrote.
Breitbart focused on the dollar-turned-swastika symbolism in the video, as did the conservative Washington Times, who noted that Trump “transforms into a robotic, missile-firing swastika”during the three-minute animated video.
Here is the video that is giving them a sad. While there’s definitely a element of schadenfreude if you enjoy watching it, the ending isn’t exactly happy, and it’s a little too plausible to be funny.
In case you want the words to the music, here they are.
[Verse 1]
In this cold place
Who will save me?
Who will take
The place of God tonight?
Oh, did I believe
Oh, really believe that
I could see light
That's hopeless and clearer
Than dawn
[Chorus 1]
I got no life
I got no hope
I got no will
I got nowhere to go
I lost my soul
I cut my skin
I'm so ashamed
At how it all began
[Verse 2]
I looked so hard
For a savior
But then
There's nothing left to save
I would waste their time
I know I've wasted mine
'Cause tonight
I'm hopeless
And clearer than dawn
[Chorus 1 - Modified]
I got no life
I got no hope
I got no will
I got nowhere to go
I lost my soul
I cut my skin
I see my life
At how it all begins
I got no life
I got no hope
You wanted more
I got no more to know
I couldn't speak
I couldn't stand
I'm so ashamed
At how it all began
[Chorus 2]
But I am tired
I'm feeling like my skin just holds me wrong
And I'm tired
I'm tired of all I've done
And I'm tired of this prison without walls
And I'm tired
Of feeling alone and nothing more
And I'm tired of feeling like my skin just holds me wrong
And I'm tired
I'm tired of all I've done
And I'm tired of feeling like it's all been going wrong
