and not blogging as much. I spent much of the day on the Johns Hopkins campus getting oriented for teaching Micro Economics to kids who have just finished 7th or 8th grades. I taught Macro to a similar age group at Dickinson College in 2015, and was supposed to again last year but Leaves on the Current went back into chemo, could not handle cat litter, and I decided I needed to be home with her anyhow.
I only got this gig about 2 weeks ago and have been scrambling a bit to get ready. My teaching assistant is a very dynamic young man from Italy who served with the man I am replacing (because he has to focus on his dissertation) for the first 3 week session, which will help.
BUT — I got my class list today. 16 kids. Of whom ten are Chinese. I did not say Chinese-American — I also have one of those. These are kids coming from the People’s Republic of China for a 3 week course at an American university.
I will meet them tomorrow, with instruction starting Monday morning.
Unlike two year ago, I am not staying on campus, but commuting from home. It is 50 miles each way, a trip that can take just over an hour to almost two, depending upon the time of day.
I will have a block of time in the afternoon but I may need to plan then, and possibly grab some shuteye.
I am looking forward to the experience. It should stretch me. But the way I am approaching it means I won’t have much time for politics — or blogging.
Be well.
