Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:
Equifax is one of the largest credit reporting bureaus in the country. They're the ones who ding your credit if you miss a credit card payment, are late paying your student loans, or are forced into bankruptcy because of medical debt.
Equifax should be familiar with accountability -- and this time, it's up to us to hold them accountable.
An estimated 143 million Americans had their personal information exposed in a massive data breach at Equifax. They failed to protect the consumers they track, and now the information of millions are vulnerable to criminals.
Equifax must be held accountable for their failure to protect this information. I have a plan that will provide victims of this breach with free credit monitoring and make it easy for consumers to freeze their credit reports, so criminals cannot steal their identities.
I'm gathering grassroots support behind this plan to urge Congress to act. Will you add your name?
With gratitude,
Sherrod
