Mitch McConnell is scared. Every day that goes by, documentary and eyewitness corroboration of Kavanaugh’s mean, aggressive and belligerent drunkenness piles up. That’s why he’s wistfully pining for the moment when he thought he could hold a floor vote on Kavanaugh before October 1.
Thankfully, that moment is past, and with every passing hour, we learn more about Kavanaugh and his lying. Which is why Republican support for Belligerent Brett sounds more shrill by the day.
Today, the NYT reported that Kavanaugh was involved in a drunk bar fight. During that fight, former NBA player Chris Dudley smashed a glass on a man’s head. This is the same Dudley who provided a strong statement of support for Kavanaugh only a few days ago:
“I went out with him all the time. He never blacked out. Never even close to blacked out,” said Dudley, a 2010 Republican candidate for governor of Oregon. “There was drinking, and there was alcohol. Brett drank, and I drank. Did he get inebriated sometimes? Yes. Did I? Yes. Just like every other college kid in America.” — www.washingtonpost.com/...
Dudley’s own credibility is cut to shreds by the news of this latest incident. He is now in hiding, refusing to take reporter’s phone calls. Before the week is done, every other Kavanaugh supporter is likely to meet the same fate, avoiding the press and worried about their reputation.
McConnell knows Mark Judge was interviewed by the FBI for much of the day, and his interview is not yet over. How much will the FBI be able to squeeze out of Mark Judge in four more days?
Jane Mayer is reporting that all of Kavanaugh’s efforts to discredit Deborah Ramirez came to nothing. Despite Kavanaugh’s attempts at witness tampering, none of his friends would call her a liar:
The “six background checks” excuse is falling apart, as Kavanaugh’s freshman roommate revealed that the FBI had never contacted him during the prior reviews:
This is why McConnell is running scared and wistfully remembering the moment when he thought he could call a vote and rush through Kavanaugh’s nomination before October 1.
Even if, by some miracle they manage to confirm Kavanaugh, Jerry Nadler will continue the investigation in January:
Well Mitch, you made your turtle-shell, now lie in it. Merrick Garland sends his regards.
