The reasons why I cannot and will not have any respect for Trump would cover a year’s worth of diaries. But one of the biggest reasons is the fact that he revels in degrading women—and seems to get a pass for behavior that would get the rest of us fired. It also sets a terrible example for young men and boys. How are we supposed to tell them that respect for women is not optional when Trump has no qualms about calling women “dogs,” suggesting they’re “bleeding badly from a facelift,” and have “blood coming out of their where-ever.”
We got a reminder of why this is outrageous last night, as I note at RDTDaily. Rabidly pro-Trump podcaster Bill Mitchell of YourVoice America let it be known he’s outraged by the outrage over Trump calling Stormy Daniels “Horseface.”
As I write this on Wednesday night, this degrading and dehumanizing tweet has been liked 14,000 times and retweeted 5,600 times. But one of those retweets is particularly disturbing. It comes from teenage conservative activist CJ Pearson. No, this isn’t snark.
Pearson’s day job is being a junior at Evans High School in Evans, Georgia, near Augusta. So a 16-year-old high school junior sees fit to join in on a campaign to slut-shame and degrade women. Deplorable is being kind to it.
As one black man to another, I urged Pearson to delete this pigweed.
As of Wednesday night, that retweet is still up. What does it say that I even have to wonder if Pearson would pull a stunt like this with one of his classmates? I hope you’re proud of yourself, CJ. This sort of thing is what can keep you out of college or from getting a job.
So this is the new normal in the Trump era. His most diehard supporters—even his youngest ones—have no problem with degrading women.
