Campaign Action
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has made it perfectly clear that he is hellbent on proceeding with a confirmation vote for Brett Kavanaugh this week. Though he is most certainly power hungry and evil, one thing McConnell isn’t is stupid. He knows that calling for a vote now means that the sham FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh must finish by Wednesday—two days short of the full week promised by both the White House and the Senate Judiciary Committee.
McConnell’s move is manipulative, disgusting, and intended for one purpose only: to confirm conservative judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court—regardless of his lies under oath, his disqualifying temperament and the emerging and disturbing pattern of his drunken behavior and abuse of women. However, none of this is unexpected given what we know of McConnell, Senate Republicans, and the GOP in general.
Since we have to wait until 2020 to boot McConnell out, we must concentrate our current efforts on stopping Kavanaugh’s confirmation. To that end, organizers of the Women’s March are planning a “Cancel Kavanaugh” march in DC on Thursday, October 4.
For those of you who are not in DC or can’t easily get there, here are some other ways that you can participate:
On Wednesday night, there are #StopKavanaugh vigils being held around the country. To find one near you, click here.
And of course, you can always call your senators and tell them to vote no on Kavanaugh. Visit Indivisible by clicking here to find the phone number for your senator as well as to see how they plan to vote.
I will be attending tomorrow’s march and plan to live tweet the event. You can follow me on Twitter @kelmacias. Lastly, you can also follow along via the hashtags #CancelKavanaugh and #BelieveSurvivors.
See you online and in the streets!
