A year ago the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that white nationalists are as much of a threat to this country as the Islamic State (ISIS), and that the threat would grow. They were hauntingly correct. Newsweek reported at the time that both terrorist organizations had 1,000 investigations open. But there is a double standard taking place as to how those probes are being conducted when it comes to white supremacists and those who align themselves with radical Islamic ideology.
The number of attacks carried out by white supremacists were “almost triple” those of those carried out by people who identified with groups such as ISIS, said Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri. And government data obtained by The Hill suggests the number of white supremacist attacks compared to those from radical Islamist groups was as many as two to one.
“We have had zero hearings on the threat of domestic terrorists and the threat they pose and our response to it,” McCaskill said, explaining there had been a number of hearings about ISIS, but none about white supremacists.
Also in 2017, the FBI issued a bulletin with a
warning.
The white supremacist movement “likely will continue to pose a threat of lethal violence over the next year.”
It did. And every massacre from the Las Vegas concert to the Parkland high school to the Pittsburgh Jewish synagogue has been devastating. Every single death from the bullet spray of guns/assault rifles seems unthinkable and unbearable. Saturday’s massacre that killed 11 innocent people left no doubt in anyone’s mind what the motive was. The gunman hated Jews and wanted them all dead. It was pure, unabashed anti-Semitism and white nationalism.
Our so-called President is now proudly claiming he’s a “nationalist.” He’s trying to normalize nationalists. There’s a website, which I’ve opted not to link, that blatantly promotes racism, anti-Semitism and Hitler’s handbook Mein Kampf. The name of the site is simply called “Nationalists.org” and it exemplifies nationalists and their mission. Here’s a 58-second video from last week’s Texas campaign rally, which shows Trump gloating about his new self-proclamation.
Video excerpt:
"You know, they have a word – it’s sort of became old-fashioned – it’s called a nationalist. And I say, really, we’re not supposed to use that word. You know what I am? I’m a nationalist, okay? I’m a nationalist. Nationalist. Nothing wrong. Use that word. Use that word." -Donald Trump, October 22, 2018
Since Trump is white and a self-proclaimed nationalist, would that not make him a white nationalist? And since he’s a white nationalist, would that not mean, according to the FBI, Trump is as threatening to this country as a member of ISIS? And yet the country moves on. We’re forced to move on. We’re so used to being shocked that we’re starting to become numb. He’s like perpetual lightening bolt in the middle of a dark never-ending storm. Keep the people disoriented and running in circles. This is what Trump and his former special advisor Steve Bannon pined for. This is what Trump is doing now. This is how Hitler did it then.
The only way to stop a white nationalist in office, from inciting the violence of other white nationalists who are reported to be as threatening as ISIS, is for Democrats to take control of Congress. And the only way for Democrats to take control of Congress—is for us to vote.
Vote. Vote early if possible. And help others to vote.
